In the run-up to the first official tests in the 2016 FIA Formula 3 European Championship season, Van Amersfoort Racing also completed their line-up for the coming year. In addition to Pedro Piquet, Callum Ilott and Harrison Newey, Frenchman Anthoine Hubert also will represent the colours of the Dutch squad.
Anthoine Hubert is regarded as a big talent, in his home country, and therefore, he is a member of the ‘Equipe de France’ the official promotion programme of the French motor racing association, FFSA. So, it will come as no surprise that the 19-year old from Chartres succeeded in convincing on the track, in his career to date: in his first season in single-seater racing, in 2013, he won the French Formula 4 title and in 2014 he was the best rookie in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. In 2015 Eurocup season, however, he encountered a difficult season finale and had to settle for finishing fifth in the championship.
His results also were realised by Frits van Amersfoort, Team Principal of Van Amersfoort Racing. “We already have been following his career for a while and are thrilled by his skills,” says the Dutchman, “With his two poles and back-to-back wins last year in Pau having convinced us in particular. So we invited him to a test in our simulator and when he delivered there, too, it was clear that we would love to sign him for our FIA Formula 3 European Championship squad. We believe that he has got what it takes to make for a surprise, every now and then this year.”
Hubert also is happy with his new deal. “Van Amersfoort Racing is a great team with a lot of successes under their belt. With the rookies Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc they were particularly successful and I would love to now tie in with this streak of success.“
