David Beckmann has signed a contract with Van Amersfoort Racing to compete in the 2017 FIA Formula 3 European Championship. The 16-year-old German, youngest driver on the FIA F3 grid of 2016, scored two podium finishes this season and is now aiming for more.
“I’m ready for the next step in my career and Van Amersfoort Racing provides me with the perfect environment to make this step,” a highly-motivated Beckmann commented. “Now, it is time to make good use of everything that I have learned this year and, together with VAR, go for race wins in 2017.”
In 2015, David Beckmann started single seater racing in the German ADAC Formula 4 and one year later moved to the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. Due to his young age – he only turned 16 at the end of April – he had to miss the first two meetings of the 2016 FIA F3 European Championship season. But this did not stop him from being successful. In Formula 4 he won the rookie championship and finished fifth in the overall ranking. In FIA Formula 3 European Championship the young German improved gradually and became a regular point-scorer.
Van Amersfoort Racing’s team principal Frits van Amersfoort is looking forward to working with the young talent, he said, “In German Formula 4 and in FIA Formula 3, David has shown his skills and we got a close-up view of his potential. This year, he scored podium finishes at Zandvoort and during the season finale at Hockenheim, where he also showed impressive pace in qualifying. Moreover, he did a fantastic job during his first participation in the Macau Grand Prix a few weeks ago. It is clear that he has what it takes to be successful, so we are all keen to help him unfold his full potential in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship with us next year.”
