Mick Schumacher to enter the 2017 FIA Formula 3 European Championship

Prema has today announced that Mick Schumacher will join the team for their 2017 FIA Formula 3 European Championship campaign.  Schumacher moves up to Formula 3 after spending two years competing in Formula 4. Having finished the 2016 season as runner up in both the Italian and the German Formula 4 championships racing for the Italian squad, the young German is now ready to climb the next rung on the single seater ladder.

Angelo Rosin, Prema Team Principal, is delighted about the signing. He commented, “We are thrilled to continue working with Mick in 2017. Not only is he a skilled driver, he is a great guy and already showed he has everything it takes to be a top all-round professional. Debuting in a challenging series like the FIA F3 European Championship is not going to be easy, but we will be 100 percent behind Mick to help him keep impressing as he did this year.”

Mick Schumacher is looking forward to the new challenge and said, “F3 will be the ideal step for me to make, and I am totally fired up for the new year to start. I am also really happy about staying with Prema, because this is such a professional team and I will again be able to learn a lot. The next season will surely be challenging, but the tests we’ve been doing in the past weeks proved the F3 car is extremely fun to drive. I can’t wait for 2017 to begin!”

In addition to Schumacher, Prema has already confirmed Callum Ilott and Guan Yu Zhou for its 2017 Formula 3 driver line up. While Schumacher will enter his debut season, both Ilott and Zhou have already gathered experience in the category.
