Season review part 5: Mücke Motorsport

Berlin-based Mücke Motorsport is one of two German teams on the grid of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. Mücke contested the 2016 season with the driver line-up of Mikkel Jensen and David Beckmann, pairing an experienced driver with a rookie. And the combination worked, at the end of the year Mücke Motorsport could look back on a solid season with three podium finishes.

For Danish driver Mikkel Jensen, 2016 was his second year in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, the 22-year-old had already competed with Mücke Motorsport in the previous season. He made use of his experience straight away and started the year with two fourth positions at the season kick-off at Paul Ricard. Jensen continued as a reliable point scorer for most of the first half of the season, but his run ended at Zandvoort, where he did not manage to score any points all weekend. He recovered quickly and at the next race meeting at the challenging circuit of Spa-Francorchamps he managed his best result of the season and finished third. Jensen finished the season twelfth in the driver championship, scoring over 100 points for his team.

Due to only reaching the minimum age of 16 at the end of April 2016, David Beckmann had to watch the first two race meetings, before being able to get into the car himself in Pau at the third race weekend of the season. The rookie could not claim any points in south-west France, but felt at ease with the car in next to no time and managed to secure points at every race weekend for the rest of the season. His most successful weekend was Zandvoort, where he claimed his first podium, finishing an overall third. This also meant the first podium for Mücke Motorsport in 2016. He was able to repeat this impressive performance at the season finale in Hockenheim where he made it to the podium again in the weekend’s second race. The German finished his first season in the series 15th in the overall rankings and seventh in the rookie standings.
