After the successful 2016 season, Germany’s motor-racing hopeful Maximilian Günther has decided to contest another FIA Formula 3 European Championship season for Prema Powerteam. Günther will be teamed up with Callum Ilott, Guan Yu Zhou and rookie Mick Schumacher.
“We are extremely happy with our driver line-up for 2017,” reveals Prema’s Team Manager René Rosin. “We can rely on the services of four really promising racers and the return of Maximilian even increases the competitiveness of our line-up. In the 2016 season he did not only score remarkable results for us but also displayed great consistency, thus remaining a factor in the battle for the title throughout the season. We are sure that now, with two full seasons in FIA Formula 3 European Championship under his belt, including one with our team, he will be able to raise the bar even further. We definitely expect him to once again be a true title contender.”
For Maximilian Günther, runner-up in the 2016 FIA Formula 3 European Championship, there are no doubts regarding the goal for the 2017 season: “Last year was the debut for our first joint season and we finished second in the championship. Now I’m really happy to be back and winning the title, is our definite goal, this year. We worked really hard during the winter to get into the best possible shape and I’m looking forward to the season.”
Günther, who also was signed as test and reserve driver by the Mercedes-AMG DTM team for the 2017 season can look back on a positive 2016 season with four race wins and 13 podiums . His third FIA Formula 3 season will be kicked off with the official pre-season tests at the Hungaroring from 24th to 25th March and the Red Bull Ring from 28th to 29th March. And from 14th to 16th April, Silverstone will stage the season kick-off with the first three championship rounds.
