Just a few days have gone by since the 2017 season finale but one of the teams already announced its first driver for the 2018 season. Team Motopark signed Fabio Scherer who consequently is going to contest his rookie season in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, next year.
In 2016 and 2017, Fabio Scherer contested the ADAC Formula 4 and won a race in both seasons. In 2016 at the Lausitzring and in 2017 at the Sachsenring. While his triumph at the Lausitzring came as a surprise, he secured a total of six podiums this year to finish fifth in the championship.
Now, the 18-year old feels well-prepared for the next step on the motor-racing ladder that is taking him to the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. “It’s an important step in my career – F3 can decide your future in motorsport,” said Scherer. “I will give my very best right from the start and hope to be able to quickly secure good results. At the same time, I am well aware of the fact that the step from F4 to F3 is a big one – but I’m ready for this challenge. Therefore, I just can’t wait for the new season to begin.”
Motopark Team Principal Timo Rumpfkeil also is looking forward to the cooperation with Scherer: “We have been following Fabio’s career very closely in F4 and he impressed us a lot this season. We tried to sign him earlier and we are happy that we now succeeded in doing so and will contest the 2018 season together with him. Fabio is a skilled young driver and we definitely want to win the rookie championship and races with him, next season.”
