Devlin DeFrancesco has today been announced by British team Carlin as its first driver for the FIA Formula 3 European Championship 2018 line-up. The 17-year old has been with the British squad for the last two years after joining the Carlin Academy in 2014. Together with the team Devlin competed in Euroformula Open in 2017 and used the second half of the season to already gain experience in FIA F3 by racing in the last two rounds of the championship. The Canadian also took part in the Macau GP last month. Devlin now feels ready to step up to the competitive FIA Formula 3 European Championship full time.
Racing director Trevor Carlin commented: “We are delighted to be able to announce Devlin as our first F3 driver for the 2018 season. He has been part of the team for three years now; starting in the Academy before racing in British Formula Four and Euroformula Open so we’ve really watched him mature and grow into the racer he’s become today. He’s already a proven race winner in both those championships and we know that he has the potential to be competitive in FIA Formula Three and is already making some great progress in testing.”
The first race of the season will see Delvin taking on the traditional and challenging Pau GP in May 2018, followed by a mixture of circuits he has already raced like Hungaroring and Silverstone, but also a few which will still be new to him.
