In the Dutch team, rookie Artem Petrov will be teamed up with Keyvan Andres who already was confirmed by Van Amersfoort Racing and is about to contest his second season on the grid of the highly competitive young-driver series. The 17-year-old Russian advances to the FIA Formula 3 European Championship from the ADAC Formula 4.
The young gun from St. Petersburg already impressed his Team Principal, Frits van Amersfoort, when contesting the final two race meetings of the 2017 ADAC Formula 4 season for the Dutch squad. At the Sachsenring, the Russian, who also competed in the full Italian Formula 4 season, finished second in one of the races and in the season finale at Hockenheim he even secured a race win. At the same time, he finished fifth in the Italian F4.
After the end of the 2017 Formula 4 season he joined Van Amersfoort Racing in the off-season tests to be prepared for his first FIA Formula 3 European Championship season. He quickly familiarised himself with his more powerful and faster single-seater and convinced with his performances right away. Frits van Amersfoort: “Last season Artem joined the team with a ‘bang’, being very fast and even winning a race right away. We believe that he now is ready for the next step and we can feel his motivation to be successful on the next level. Therefore, it’s a pleasure to announce that Artem joins our Formula 3 squad for the 2018 season.”
Petrov also is looking forward to the season kick-off that will be held in mid-May at in Pau, Southern France. “I’m happy that I advance to the FIA Formula 3 European Championship with Van Amersfoort Racing. I felt at home in the team right away and I’m looking forward to compete in this very competitive championship with very strong drivers I have known since my karting days. With the many years of experience of Frits and his team behind me I’m confident that I can be competitive in the coming season.”
